Monday Night Combat Wiki

Standardization[]

I'd like to try standardizing the blog posts added to the Updates category. Comments should go in the section they pertain to, general comments at the bottom. After we've reached a good format, I'll replace this with instructions.

Title[]

I think the title should be descriptive to the type of update and the date of the update. By type I mean how the content is delivered. The options that we should have are Patch (that requires a visible download) or what Col Jessep described as a Live Update (minor tweaks to in-game values like damage). We can also add DLC Release option (maybe including price if know) to those, too. And date format should be something that will help sort the updates in the category page (like YYYY-MM-DD). All of this combined will make something like this:

2010-08-30 Live Update

or:

2010-09-14 DLC Released

and maybe something like this if it ever happens:

2010-09-20 Patch, DLC Released

It may be good to have other sub-categories from Updates for each of these and possibly to separate multiple updates like this into individual posts; not sure though. — minrice2099 (talk | contribs) 09:09, September 1, 2010 (UTC)

Body[]

The first thing that should be in any of the message bodies is a link to the official announcement (maybe in the form of a {{hatnote}}).

The rest of the message, I think, should be exclusively the text from the official release. Any blog post that wants to talk about how the updates may affect gameplay and balance should link to either this whole post, or blockquote the sections they are talking about. — minrice2099 (talk | contribs) 09:09, September 1, 2010 (UTC)

General[]

Voting and commenting should be disabled. This is a purely informative post; discussions should be saved for other posts.

Only the first official post should be tagged with Category:Updates. Any others talking about it should not be part of the Updates category.

Maybe this shouldn't be a category. The TF2 Wiki (I'm using them as an example because I like the wiki and its organization, not because of the game itself) has a Patches page that's well structured. They also use a fairly simple template for the full patch details. Because this is (as of now) an Xbox exclusive, there probably won't be many updates, but I think it's good to always be thinking about best practices. — minrice2099 (talk | contribs) 09:09, September 1, 2010 (UTC)
